Re:           Road Construction - Mathews Drive

As part of the Town of Hilton Head Island’s Mathews Drive Road Improvements Project, night time paving operations will resume Monday evening July 7 along Mathews Drive and should be completed over the next two weeks, pending weather.  This will be night time work (from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM) in an effort to minimize impacts to businesses and residential traffic. The motoring public will be restricted to local traffic only by use of lane closures. 

The work will consist of placing the final surface course of asphalt on Mathews Drive to match the new median curb.  Motorists are encouraged to use extra caution when approaching any Mathews Drive intersection.

The construction area will be lined with orange drums and electronic message boards will be used to warn the motoring public of upcoming construction. 

The Town considers the night-time work to be unavoidable primarily due to roadway network impacts that would otherwise occur as a result of lane closures and access restrictions which are requisite of the paving operations.  Once paving is finished, all major work tasks within the Mathews Drive Corridor will be substantially complete.
