Mathews Drive Roadway Widening
& Pathway Project Status/Updates

What will happen the week of April 28th, 2008

  • Curb and gutter will be placed along Mathews Drive at various locations, mainly for radii and catch basin tie-ins.
  • APAC grading crews will continue work throughout the job, preparing grades for the pathways and curb and gutter.  This work will be mostly out of the travel lanes and should not create traffic delays.
  • The road base will be prepared for paving at the new drives connecting Mathews Court to Pineland Station and Mathews Drive, across from Wachovia.
  • The ancillary pipe and junctions will be installed for the hydro-dynamic separator water quality device which was installed at the corner of Mathews Drive and Island Drive.
  • Work will continue on the adjustment of the storm drainage structures throughout the job.
  • Work will continue on the block retaining walls near Midas Mufflers and Pizza Hut.
  • The Town is coordinating with APAC, Woodlake Villas, their designers, and their contractor on plans for improvements to the Woodlake Villas drive entrance.  Construction will begin next week.  REA Contracting will be doing this work for Woodlake Villas.
  • The Town is also coordinating with the Hilton Head PSD, for their installation of a sewer liner down Mathews Drive.  Insituform is the PSD contractor installing a cured-in-place pipe liner in the existing sewer line.  The sewer bypass system has been installed.  This work will require lane closures, but should mostly be done at night.
  • Traffic control and Erosion control devices will be maintained.
  • Asphalt paving is expected to begin the week of May 5.
