Vacation, Sick Leave, Disabilitiy & Holidays Benefits Summary

Vacation

The Town offers a generous vacation package. Employees begin to accrue vacation from their date of hire. The amount of vacation accrued each month varies depending on the employee's regular work schedule and years of service. The accrual rate ranges from 7.5 hours per month to 11.2 hours per month for new full-time employees. Part-time employees accrue on a pro-rated basis. Unused vacation may be carried over to the next year, subject to specified limits.

Sick Leave

Regular Town employees receive paid sick leave benefits to be used for temporary absences due to personal or family illnesses or injury. Accruals begin as of the date of hire. Accrual rates range from 7.5 hours per month to 11.2 hours per month for full-time employees, depending on the employee’s regular schedule. Part-time employees accrue on a pro-rated basis.

As a reward for maintaining an excellent attendance record, employees are eligible to receive a portion of unused sick leave upon termination for non-disciplinary reasons. After a minimum of 5 years of service, terminating employees will receive a benefit equal to 1% per year of service multiplied by the value of their accrued sick leave. The maximum benefit is 25% of accrued sick leave subject to the cap. The benefit is paid in the form of a taxable lump sum bonus or deferred on a pre-tax basis into the 457 or 401k Plan(s).

Disability Benefits

The Town's Disability Program provides both short and long-term benefits, fully paid by the Town. When an employee is out of work due to illness or injury, they are eligible to receive sick leave pay. Once sick leave is exhausted or after 30 days, short-term disability benefits can cover 66.67% of pay (up to $1000 a week) for day 31 to 90. After 90 days, long-term disability benefits (65% of pay up to $6500 a month) are available. Under certain situations, coverage may exclude pre-existing conditions.
