Legal Department
The Town of Hilton Head Island's Legal Department
provides legal counsel, advice, and services to the Town Manager and all
other Town officers and staff according to State and Federal regulations
and the Municipal
Code; provides legal services to other public officials, Boards and
Commissions of the Town of Hilton Head Island; provides customer service
by fairly and equitably interpreting, researching, reviewing, and enforcing
the Municipal
Codes to the benefit of the Town's citizens and visitors; acts as
a liaison for local, state, and national media on behalf of the Town;
advises Town staff on how to deal with media inquiries and prepares press
releases for dissemination to the media. Other legal services include
the following: preparing contracts and conducting contract negotiations;
ensuring contractual compliance of franchises; reviewing and drafting
ordinances, resolutions, legislative correspondence, and other legal documents;
interpreting code enforcement issues; responding to citizen inquiries
and complaints, advising on the processing of claims; and providing administrative
leadership, supervision, support, and direction to the Administrative
Support Division and the Operations Division.
