Town of Hilton Head Island
Natural Resources

The Town's Natural Resources Division enforces the provisions of Chapter 6 of the Land Management Ordinance, including preservation of trees and native vegetation, wetlands, and beaches. The Division reviews all development projects to assure that natural resources are protected to the maximum extent possible. We work closely with developers and property owners to accomplish the goals of maintaining a liveable environment for our residents, visitors, and wildlife.

In addition, we strive to become involved in all aspects of natural resource protection including protection of the loggerhead sea turtle, testing and monitoring of the Island's water quality, creation of wildlife corridors, education of the public.

We produce informative brochures, give talks to civic groups, and involve school children through classroom exercises and field trips.

Please explore our site to find out more about the exciting and innovative projects we work on.
