Redevelopment Strategies

Programs:

  1. In order to encourage redevelopment of private properties to maintain their economic value, enhance visual qualities, and reduce stormwater runoff contaminants, establish a program where private property owners can buy into a regional stormwater management system that provides off site storage and water quality measures.

  2. Establish a public art program that celebrates the area's natural and cultural resources, as well as recognizes significant elements of the Island's history, becoming a permanent and distinctive part of the area.

  3. Establish a program to consolidate and separate residential and light industrial uses in the area. This could include a public/private partnership to utilize Town owned land for relocated residential uses.

  4. Establish a directional signage system for the area using a standard design incorporating an element which is unique to the area to assist residents and visitors in finding their way to various destinations.

Public art, water features, and stormwater management elements can successfully be combined into our public spaces.

Public art can be used to celebrate the local wildlife, often in sculptural form.

A common sign design can be helpful in directing people to their destination. This program would provide signage at critical points to help people find their way to various destinations, it would not be a system of signs at the destination. The design of these "wayfinding" signs would be similar to the new park signs around the island.
