Sub-Area 1 Projects

Description of Proposed Project
Implementation Schedule
1 - 2
yrs.
3 - 6
yrs.
7 - 10
yrs.
1.1
Redesign Mathews Drive from Beach City Road to William Hilton Parkway to include a landscaped median with left turn lanes and pedestrian crossings and refuges, and a pathway on one side of the road to improve traffic circulation, pedestrian safety, and enhance the aesthetics of the roadway. Where feasible, include bio-retention facilities in the stormwater drainage system. (In Ten Year CIP)

1.2
Reconfigure the intersection of William Hilton Parkway and the entrances to Northridge Plaza and Pineland Station by constructing a median which channelizes travel lanes to allow traffic to turn left from the parkway, but prohibits left turns from either entrance onto the parkway, to improve safety by eliminating turning conflicts at this intersection.

1.3
Construct a public safety facility on Town land behind Pineland Station, and redesign and construct a new shared access to this facility and Pineland Station from Mathews Drive, to provide a centralized facility for law enforcement and court activities, which is adjacent to existing services (such as restaurants) for the users of the facility. (In Ten Year CIP)

1.4
Redesign Mathews Drive from William Hilton Parkway to Marshland Road to include a landscaped median with left turn lanes and pedestrian crossings and refuges, and a pathway on both sides of the road to improve traffic circulation, pedestrian safety, and enhance the aesthetics of the roadway. Where feasible, include bio-retention facilities in the stormwater drainage system. (In Ten Year CIP)

1.5 Construct a new access road parallel to Mathews Drive from Oak Park Drive possibly to Marshland Road, to reduce traffic on Mathews Drive and provide an alternate route to businesses along the new road.

1.6 Redesign the secondary street system in the area of Island Drive to minimize curb cuts on Mathews Drive and enhance vehicular movement into and within this light industrial area.

1.7 Redesign the intersection of Mathews Drive and Marshland Road, possibly utilizing a roundabout, to enhance traffic circulation and improve safety. (In Ten Year CIP)

1.8 Redesign Marshland Road from Mathews Drive to Leg 'O Mutton Road to include a landscaped median with left turn lanes and pedestrian crossings and refuges, to improve traffic circulation, pedestrian safety, and enhance the aesthetics of the roadway. Where feasible, include bio-retention facilities in the stormwater drainage system.

1.9 Develop the Town owned property on the south side of Marshland Road as a park to provide an amenity and views of Broad Creek for redevelopment in the area. (In Ten Year CIP)

1.10 Bury the power lines along Mathews Drive and Marshland Road to improve the aesthetics of the roadway and protect these facilities during storm events. Consider relocation of power lines and burial of conduit in preparation for future power line burial as alternatives to avoid impacts on project scheduling.
