Redevelopment Strategies
Stoney/Skull Creek Area
Policies:
- Work with Hilton Head No. 1 PSD and property owners to extend sewer service to areas currently dependent on individual septic systems, providing the necessary TIF funding in a manner as approved by Town Council. Scheduling of sewer construction should be coordinated with road construction.
- Provide lighting along public pathways and at signalized intersections which is designed to illuminate the pathway or intersection without producing excess light, to improve pedestrian safety of these facilities.
- Work with private property owners to remove sunken and abandoned boats from the waterway and shoreline of Skull Creek, using public funding or grants for a portion of the cost. Participating property owners would provide some public benefit to the Town, such as allowing public access to the waterfront.
- Use pervious materials for paved surfaces wherever feasible, which will enhance infiltration and reduce stormwater runoff, thereby reducing the amount of pollutants entering Skull Creek or Jarvis Creek.
