Beach Renourishment Project Progression

The activities associated with the placement of sand have been concluded. .  In total, over 2,000,000 cubic yards of sand has now been placed along approximately 8 miles of the Island’s shorefront. The project is complete.  Within the next 30 days, the contractor will be demobilizing from the project.  As a result portions of the parking lot at the Town’s Islander’s Beach Park will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning Thursday February 10, 2007.   The closure is required due to project demobilization activities and the removal of approximately 16,000 linear feet of beach renourishment pipeline which will be hauled away via truck from the site.  The pipe will be transported from the beach and stockpiled in a portion of the parking lot to facilitate loading of trucks and subsequent removal.   The park will be returned to normal operating conditions as soon as possible.  During this period considerable day time movement of heavy equipment on the beach is expected between South Beach and Islander’s Beach Park.
