Hurricane EvacuationIf a hurricane poses a threat to Hilton Head Island, the Governor of South Carolina will ask for a voluntary relocation of visitors and residents of the Island. A Voluntary Relocation is the best time to leave without worry of extended traffic delays. Under a voluntary relocation you are not required to leave, however it is recommended that you leave if possible. If the hurricane becomes a greater threat and it looks like it may impact Hilton Head Island, the Governor of South Carolina will issue a Mandatory Evacuation Order, which means you must leave the Island and seek shelter inland.
