Project Updates

The Town announces the completion of the 2016 Island wide Beach Renourishment Project. The Town's contractor Weeks Marine, Inc. completed sand placement activities in the overnight hours on December 29th.


  • 1/13/2017 - 2016 Beach Nourishment Project Update
    Beginning Monday January 16, 2017 the Town's subcontractor, Eastman Aggregates will begin tilling those portions of the Island's beach which were recently renourished. The tilling is a requirement of the beach renourishment project permits and is done to ensure suitable nesting habitat for sea turtles. The portions of the beach affected by this work are South Beach between markers 12 and 20, South Forest Beach to the Folly between markers 53A and 97, adjacent to Port Royal Plantation between markers 117 and 123, along the Port Royal Sound beach between markers 124 and 130 and at Mitchelville Beach. The proposed work hours are between 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM; all work is expected to be complete within 7-10 days. Read more...
  • 12/29/2016 - 2016 Beach Nourishment Project Update
    The Town hereby announces the completion of the 2016 Island wide Beach Renourishment Project. The Town's contractor Weeks Marine, Inc. completed sand placement activities in the overnight hours on December 29. Since the start of the project in June, more than 2.5 million cubic yards of sand have been placed along approximately 7 miles of shoreline. The work includes damage reparations to some portions of the beach damaged by Hurricane Matthew. Weeks Marine plans to demobilize from the Island within the next 30 days via Islanders' Beach Park and the Town's Collier Beach Property. Read more...
  • 11/28/2016 - 2016 Beach Nourishment Project Progress Update
    On November 27, 2016, after relocating the dredge, pipeline and equipment the Town's contractor Weeks Marine, Inc. restarted sand placement activities near Singleton Beach. Work will advance southward along the Palmetto Dunes oceanfront to near Captain's Walk. In order to finish the project, approximately 600,000 cubic yards of sand is to be placed along about 10,000 feet of shoreline. The project is expected to be concluded in late December. Read more...
  • 11/23/2016 - 2016 Beach Renourishment Project Update
    All beach fill activities between South Forest Beach (near Marriott's Grande Ocean Resort) and southern Palmetto Dunes (near Captain's Walk) are complete. The dredge, pipeline and equipment will be repositioned during the next few days. Beach fill activities are expected to resume at Singleton Beach on Saturday November 26. Daily updates will resume on Monday November 28.
  • 11/10/2016 - 2016 Beach Nourishment Project - Progress Update
    Work to repair hurricane damage to the previously constructed beach along the south central oceanfront (North and South Forest Beach) is complete. The Town's contractor Weeks Marine, Incorporated, has rebuilt the beach to the point where they were prior to Hurricane Matthew near Shipyard/Palmetto Dunes. As a result of the impact of the storm, Town hereby announces a change in the limits to two (2) of the four (4) of the acceptance segments along the central oceanfront portion of the work.   • 10/25/2016 - 2016 Beach Renourishment Project Schedule Update
    As a result of weather related delays encountered by the passage of Hurricane Matthew, the Town has revised the schedule for the completion of the remaining segments of the Beach Renourishment Project. Work on the southern half of the central oceanfront beach will continue to advance northward before stopping adjacent to southern Palmetto Dunes. This section is now expected to be complete by mid-November. Work on the northern half of the central oceanfront beach, from southern Palmetto Dunes to Singleton Beach is now expected to take place from Late November to Late December. Work here will commence at Singleton Beach and advance southward to the tie in. Please see the attached timeline map.
  • 10/17/2016 - 2016 Beach Nourishment Project Progress Update
    The Town's contractor, Weeks Marine Incorporated expects to restart beach renourishment activities in South Forest Beach no later than October 19, 2016. The Town desires to replace the sand washed from our design template along the central oceanfront beach as a result of Hurricane Matthew. Read more...

    At 6:00 AM this morning the Town's contractor Weeks Marine, Inc., ceased sand placement activities and began preparing for the worsening sea conditions expected as a result of the approach of Hurricane Matthew. Read more...
  • 9/27/2016 - 2016 Beach Nourishment Project Schedule Update
    As a result of weather related delays encountered since September 9, including the passage of Tropical Storm Julia and unexpected mechanical repairs and the planned relocation of the dredge within the approved Barrett Shoals borrow site, the Town has revised the schedule for the completion of the remaining segments of the Beach Renourishment Project.   • 9/20/2016 - 2016 Beach Nourishment Project Update
    The dredge CR McCaskill was redeployed at mid-day today around the time of high tide. Sand placement activities are expected to resume in the North Forest Beach Area later this afternoon.
  • 9/15/2016 - As a result of coincident weather related impacts (Tropical Storm Julia), unexpected mechanical repairs and the planned relocation of the dredge within the approved Barrett Shoals borrow site, progress of the beach renourishment project has temporarily ceased. The pumping of sand is expected to resume no later than Monday September 19, 2016.

    As a result of the forecast track of Tropical Depression #9, the Town's contractor Weeks Marine Inc., will suspend beach fill operations on Wednesday August 31, 2016 and begin their preparations for the deteriorating weather conditions associated with the advancing storm. Read more...
  • 8/22/2016 - 2016 Beach Nourishment Project - Progress Update
    The Town's contractor, Weeks Marine Incorporated restarted beach renourishment activities in South Forest Beach on August 21, 2016. Currently the active construction zone is located between Beach Marker 55 and 57A, south of the Coligny Beach Park access. In coming weeks, work is expected to advance to the north adjacent to and then beyond Coligny, North Forest Beach and Shipyard.  Work with this segment will proceed as far north as near the Windsor Court South development (adjacent southern Palmetto Dunes).   • 8/8/2016 - Beach renourishment activities at South Beach adjacent to the Sea Pines Resort have been completed. Pumping will resume on or about August 15th in South Forest Beach.

  • 7/11/2016 - 2016 Beach Nourishment Project - Status Update
    Currently, the Town's contractor, Weeks Marine, Inc., is working at the "heel" of the Island adjacent to Port Royal Plantation. To date, more than 450,000 cubic yards of sand have been placed since the project's June 17, 2016 start. Read more...
  • 7/3/2016 - Beach renourishment construction for the segment of beach at Port Royal Plantation north of Beach House has been completed and will be opened in its entirety today. Additionally, the beach area in front of the Spa will be opened around 2 p.m. today. Mitchelville Beach Park remains closed. Construction on the heel will begin today.
  • 6/24/2016 - This weekend, crews will begin to pre-position equipment and pipeline from the north side of the island to the South Beach area. The goal is to have the pipeline and equipment in place and fenced off before the 4th of July weekend. Work in the South Beach area will not commence until work is near completion at the heel area of the island.
