Building Inspections

Building projects are inspected during construction to assure compliance with approved plans and adopted Codes and regulations. Inspections are assigned to the permit based on the work that is being done. Each stage of construction is inspected. Work cannot proceed without inspector approval. All required paperwork must be in our file before the inspection is requested.

The inspector leaves a copy of the inspection worksheet with the inspection results or a correction notice at the job site if possible. Inspection results are also available on the Interactive Voice Response System at (843)341-4677. If you are a contractor registered with the online permit program, you can access inspection results via the internet.

A Certificate of Occupancy or an approved final inspection is required. Inspectors are available to provide information regarding regulations and inspections from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. or from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Re-inspection fees may be assessed when the permit card is not properly posted on the work site; the approved plans are not readily available to the inspector; access for inspection is not provided; the work was not ready for inspection or corrections were not made.

There are three ways to request an inspection. Please have your building permit number and inspection item number ready.

  1. You may register with the Community Development Department and request inspections on line. Please call (843) 341-4757 to register.

  2. You may use our Interactive Voice Response System which is available 24 hours a day. Inspections requested by 7 a.m. will be honored the same day if possible. The phone number is (843)341-4677.

  3. You may request an inspection by calling our office at (843)341-4757 after 10 a.m. Inspections requested by this method will be honored the following day if possible.

To cancel an inspection or to check inspection results, either call our Voice Response System no later than 7 a.m. on the day of the scheduled inspection or call our office directly. You may also use our online program if you are registered with our office.
