Located 45 minutes from Savannah, GA, Hilton Head Island is one of the world's premier resort locations offering a rich and rewarding lifestyle. We are currently filling an opening in our Dispatch organization.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this position is to relay information from public emergency callers to proper resources that can provide assistance when necessary. The center answers enhanced 911 and conventional lines and is responsible for monitoring and dispatching for the Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division and other local agencies; dispatching appropriate personnel if necessary; and troubleshooting communications equipment as appropriate. The position reports to a Shift Supervisor.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Receives calls from public for emergency services;
  • Determines which response agency should be responsible for responding to the call for assistance and dispatches appropriate units;
  • Relays all appropriate and necessary information to the responding emergency units;
  • Provides emergency assistance to callers until responding emergency units arrive and assume control of the situation;
  • Monitors primary and secondary radio channels;
  • Conserves the knowledge of location and availability of all field units,
  • Maintains, updates, and applies accurate records by utilizing related information databases and logs information into the Town's reporting system;
  • Records hydrants that are out of service and streets with any obstructions and relays information to appropriate parties and agencies; logs reports of traffic light malfunctions or maintenance needs and forwards information to appropriate parties and agencies; updates the Town's burn line every morning to inform residents of burning conditions; ensures that complexes on fire watch contact the dispatch every hour; updates gate codes, deputy call signs and employee telephone numbers for daily use; monitors the weather channel for any warnings of pending severe weather;
Requirements:

In addition to being able to multi-task, the ideal candidate will be a team player, possess strong keyboarding skills, be able to follow procedures and have the equivalent education + experience or a high school diploma or G.E.D. + 1 year of experience in administrative support, customer service, emergency dispatch, or a closely related field. In addition, if hired, they must obtain:

  • Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification (E-911 Specialist) within one (1) year of employment;
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR Certification within three (3) months of employment;
  • Telecommunications Specialist (E-9-1-1) Certification within one year of employment.
  • Training equivalent to Haz Mat Awareness in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120
