Special Election Scheduled for Hilton Head Island Town Council Ward 6 Vacancy

The Town of Hilton Head Island announces that there will be a special election on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, to fill the unexpired term of Town Councilman John McCann, who resigned from his Ward 6 seat on November 21, 2018. This term ends December 2020.

Citizens who are interested in filing for candidacy may do so during normal operating hours (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) in the Records Center at Town Hall, One Town Center Court, beginning noon, Friday, December 7, 2018, until 4:30 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2018.

The candidacy filing form is available in the Records Center and may also be printed from the Town’s website, www.hiltonheadislandsc.gov. Candidates may either file in person or by agent. If filing in person, candidates must bring a photo ID and sign the Statement of Candidacy form before a Town employee. If filing by agent, the Statement of Candidacy form must be notarized in advance. The filing fee is $35.00 and is payable by cash, credit card or check.

Candidates must reside in and be currently registered to vote in Ward 6 in the Town of Hilton Head Island. Candidates’ voter registration must match their current residence. Each candidate is required to file a Statement of Economic Interests form with the State Ethics Commission by using the electronic filing system at http://ethics.sc.gov.

This is a nonpartisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.
