Town of Hilton Head Island Press Release Contact: Darrin Shoemaker, P.E., Traffic and Transportation Date: April 30th, 2008 Subject: Permanent Closure of Wild Horse Road Median Crossover The Town of Hilton Head Island announces that work to permanently close the Wild Horse Road crossover on William Hilton Parkway will begin after 7:00 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 and continue tomorrow evening, Thursday, May 1st. Workers will begin to saw cut the paved surface in the median this evening and tomorrow evening. This work will require that the westbound through-lane adjacent to the William Hilton Parkway median be closed after 7:00 p.m. this evening. There are three westbound lanes available on William Hilton Parkway at Wild Horse Road, and two lanes will remain open to traffic during this closure. Later tonight and tomorrow evening after 7:00 p.m., the eastbound through-lane will be closed, and two eastbound through-lanes will again be maintained around the closure due to the availability of three lanes on William Hilton Parkway at Wild Horse Road. The lane closures will also require the temporary closure of the Wild Horse Road median crossover between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. tonight and tomorrow evening. The median crossover will be open to traffic, however, during daylight hours between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. for the remainder of this week. The median crossover will be permanently closed after 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5th, 2008. Work to remove the pavement within the median and replace it with a curbed, landscaped area will begin on this night. This work will require similar lane closures in either direction of US 278 at Wild Horse Road throughout the week of Monday, May 5th. Motorists are asked to reduce their speed and to use caution when traveling on William Hilton Parkway at Wild Horse Road tonight and tomorrow evening, as well as throughout next week. |
