Connected Certified Community

Connected Certified Community LogoIn December of 2014, the Town of Hilton Head Island became the fourth community in the state to be a Certified Connected  Community though Connect South Carolina's Community Engagement Program, a non-profit program funded by the State to assist communities with broadband, or high speed internet access, related planning in order to improve economic growth, job creation, global competitiveness and the quality of life across the State.

This program brought together community stakeholders, state leaders and technology providers to evaluate the Island’s technology assets and to develop a technology action plan for the Island. Being recognized as a Connected Community acknowledges the accomplishments of the community thus far in broadband access, adoption and use and the Technology Action Plan identifies ways that the Island's community can continue to improve these assets. The plan includes the following recommendations: Provide Improved Access to Broadband for Students; Perform a Pilot Project for 1 Gig Service; Develop Public Private Partnerships to Deploy Broadband Service; Assist Providers with Building Necessary Wireless Infrastructure; Hold a Quarterly Technology Forum for Economic Development; Feature Cyber Education; Identify and Populate Community Supply and Demand Matrix; Recognize Technology Achievements in the Community; Connect the Beach; Expand the Learning Environment Past the Boundaries of the School.
