During a Category 2 storm or greater, alternate shelters will be set up in other counties. Law enforcement security will be provided at each shelter. Pets are not allowed in shelters.

Beaufort Elementary School and Bluffton Elementary School have been designated as Special Needs Shelters Beaufort County. These shelters provide limited medical assistance from nurses/attendants (such as helping patients with taking shots, cleaning a wound, changing a dressing, and basic first aid medical treatment. Patients that are on any type of equipment that requires electricity should not use this shelter but should seek relocation to a facility that can accommodate them. Patients using the Special Needs shelter will be required to have a capable caretaker with them.

Those using the shelters should know to bring their own food, clothing, bedding, medications, water, hygiene items, toys for kids, reading materials, games, etc. We suggest bringing at least five days worth of items/food. Smoking is not allowed in any shelters.
