Tropical Storm Andrea Update - June 6, 2013 at 8:00 p.m.
Hilton Head Island Emergency Management is continuing to monitor TS Andrea. After the last National Weather Service briefing the timing of the storm was updated but much remains the same. The current predictions have the storm reaching our area at approximately 1:00 am and being out of the area by 8:00 am. They are still anticipating 3-5 inches of rain on top of the 4-5 we have already received. The area will experience 25-35 MPH sustained winds. The National Weather Service also advises tornado warnings are a possibility east of I-95 along the coast.
The onset of gusty winds and heavy rains can cause outside activities to become dangerous. Secure loose outdoor objects which can be blown around such as garbage cans and outdoor furniture. As a result of these winds and heavy rainfall there may be some downed trees and power lines. The main concern with Andrea as it approaches the region continues to be the potential for heavy rainfall and possible flooding.
This will be the final update unless conditions change.
