The Town Council of Hilton Head Island has requested that S.C. Governor Henry McMaster order a shelter-at-home requirement for South Carolina.

A uniform standard order for the State would be best. But, if he does not honor that request and there is still a need to address the potential impact of this crisis locally, the Town Council is positioned to enact its own stay at home order similar to what has been done in the cities of Charleston, S.C., and Savannah, GA.

The general provisions of this order will be:

  1. Residents and visitors are required to remain at home unless they need to leave their residence to carry on essential services or to receive essential services.

  2. The list of proposed essential services that will be followed is that which is proposed by the Homeland Security Administration.

  3. In addition to leaving their residence for such essential services, residents and visitors will be allowed to leave their residences for exercise.

  4. It is important that during all such activities, whether those for essential services or exercise, social distancing must be practiced.

  5. It is important that anyone who has traveled here from somewhere else self-quarantine for 14 days.

  6. Follow federal guidelines on non-essential travel.

We urge those who are able to begin following these six provisions immediately.
