Three cases of the coronavirus have been reported for Hilton Head Island, according to zip code data the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control released today.

A list of cases by county and zip code are available on DHEC's website at https://www.scdhec.gov/infectious-diseases/viruses/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19/monitoring-testing-covid-19. This information is updated daily and shows results for the previous 14 days.

Along with its data, DHEC officials state that "it's important to know that there are many more people in the community who have this virus and have never been tested. Also, DHEC isn’t notified when individuals are no longer infectious (i.e., they are well), and as a result, these numbers likely include people who have recovered and no longer pose a risk to others. Regardless of the number of positive cases in their community, everyone is encouraged to take the same daily precautions to prevent against the spread of COVID-19."

Everyone is urged to follow CDC recommendations:

  • Wash your hands
  • Cover your cough or sneeze
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Clean and disinfect

If you have general questions about COVID-19, you should contact the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control Care Line at 1-855-472-3432. DHEC staff are answering calls from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
