The Hilton Head Island Town Council voted Tuesday to permit Island residents access to Coligny Beach Park and Islanders Beach Park, effective Friday, May 1.

All parking spaces, including metered spaces, would be reserved for Island residents with beach parking passes until further notice. Additionally:

  • Playgrounds and picnic shelters will remain closed.
  • Town staff and contracted security will monitor the beach parks and parking lots.
  • Supervisors and lifeguards from Shore Beach Services will patrol beaches.
  • Beach-goers will not be able to rent beach equipment.
  • Trash and recycling pick-up and removal will resume.

Jarvis Creek Park and Crossings Park will re-open on Thursday, May 7. However, team sports will not be permitted at Crossings Park. Park restrooms will re-open, but all playgrounds, recreational equipment and picnic shelters will remain closed.

The Town Council will meet again on May 12 to discuss re-opening public access to its other beaches and parks.
