Young crafters and artisans take over Coligny's center stage to kickstart their creative careers.

This holiday season, Coligny Plaza is opening the doors of its famed center court kiosks to the next generation of entrepreneurs in a special holiday market Dec. 8-10.

For three days, young crafters and artists under the age of 18 will have a chance to share their creations with shoppers in one of the most heavily trafficked holiday shopping spots on Hilton Head Island, decorating their kiosk as they see fit and learning how to turn their hobby into a trade.

"We couldn’t be more proud of these young people as they try their hand at running a business," said Coligny owner JR Richardson. "Our stores are largely locally owned, so these young entrepreneurs quite literally represent the next generation of the great shopping experience at Coligny."

The Town of Hilton Head Island has even joined in, offering up a special version of its town business license for these budding entrepreneurs. These streamlined, temporary business licenses will allow young artists and artisans to gain first-hand experience with the licensing process.

"We love supporting creative young entrepreneurs, so we wanted to give them an easy introduction to the mechanics of owning a business and applying for a license," said April Akins, Revenue Services Supervisor for Town of Hilton Head Island.

A special panel of judges reviewed applications and announced finalists earlier this week. The chosen few will be given a chance to anchor a special event showcasing the future of Hilton Head Island's entrepreneurs.

"We're proud to have an institution like Coligny on Hilton Head Island that supports our youth and encourages them to pursue small business," said Steve Riley, Town Manager for Town of Hilton Head Island. "Locally owned businesses have long been the backbone of Hilton Head Island, and it's important to us as a town and as a community to join Coligny in nurturing this next generation."

For shoppers, this represents a chance to find something truly unique and special for the holiday gift-giving season. For our young entrepreneurs, artists and makers, it represents a chance to turn their passion into a business.

Coligny's holiday market for young entrepreneurs will run from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 8 and 1-5 p.m. Dec. 9-10
