Main Street Roadway Maintenance Work Gets Underway This Week

January 24, 2024

Starting today, the Town of Hilton Head Island will begin roadway maintenance along Main Street. The work will span from Wilborn Road to Whooping Crane Way, as well as four side streets: Meeting Street, Museum Street, Central Avenue, and Merchant Street. This project is expected to continue until the end of February.

The scope of the work involves comprehensive repairs to potholes and damaged road sections, spot repairs to curbs and gutters, and the restoration of concrete sidewalks. Concurrently, stormwater cleaning and inspection activities will be conducted, extending three to four weeks beyond the roadway project.

Work operations are slated for Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 7 pm, and may require temporary lane closures. Flagging operations will be implemented as needed, ensuring all lanes are open to traffic by the end of each workday. Access to structures, driveways, and businesses will be available throughout the maintenance period. Motorists and pedestrians should exercise caution when navigating the designated work zones. On-site workers will manage traffic.
