Gullah Geechee Land & Cultural Preservation Project

Hilton Head Island is home to historic Gullah Geechee neighborhoods where generations of native Islanders live and strive to preserve their culture.

Protecting valuable heirs' property, developing land, and preserving their neighborhoods and the ways of life passed down to them are of paramount to native Islanders.

Recognizing the richness of the Gullah culture and how it contributes to the fabric of the Island, Town Council identifies "Preserving the Island's Gullah Culture" is as a priority. The Town established the Gullah Geechee Land and Cultural Preservation Task Force to identify and assist in the preservation of the Gullah-Geechee culture.
