Town to host Americans with Disabilities Act open house on Aug. 14

Community invited to share input on accessibility needs as part of self-assessment and transition plan

August 11, 2025

The Town of Hilton Head Island invites residents, stakeholders, and members of the disability community to participate in a public Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Open House on Aug. 14 at Town Hall. This event marks the official kickoff of the Town’s ADA Self-Assessment and Transition Plan process.

Open house sessions will be held at:
Location: Town Hall - Benjamin M. Racusin Town Council Chambers, 1 Town Center Court
Times: 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The ADA Open House will provide an opportunity for community members to learn more about the Town’s efforts to evaluate its public facilities, programs, and services for accessibility, and to contribute feedback on barriers that may affect individuals with disabilities.

“Our goal is to ensure that everyone in our community has equal access to the programs, services, and facilities offered by the Town,” said Mayor Alan Perry. “The input we receive during this process will help shape a more inclusive and accessible future for Hilton Head Island.”

The ADA Self-Assessment and Transition Plan is a requirement of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act and serves as a roadmap for identifying and addressing barriers to access. The open house will feature informational displays, opportunities for one-on-one conversations with Town staff and our consultant, and ways for participants to provide input in writing or verbally.

Community members who cannot attend in person will have the opportunity to participate by completing an online accessibility survey or submitting comments by email or mail. Details on how to participate remotely will be available at a later date.
