January 14, 2026

The Town of Hilton Head Island has several projects underway and scheduled in the coming weeks to improve local infrastructure and connectivity throughout the community. These efforts support the Town’s ongoing work to enhance major corridors and streets, as well as maintain and enhance parks and recreational facilities, as outlined in the Fiscal Years 2026 - 2028 Strategic Action Plan.

Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the following areas:

• Marsh Point Road, along Gumtree Road to Bus Drive
• Barker Field Extension parking lot
• Arrow Road, between Hilton Head Motor Coach Resort and Espy Lumber
• Arrow Road to Wexford Drive

Arrow Road: Driveway and Sidewalk Improvements beginning Jan. 19
Starting Monday, Jan. 19, the Town of Hilton Head Island will construct a new asphalt driveway and make sidewalk improvements on Town-owned property along Arrow Road, between Hilton Head Motor Coach Resort and Espy Lumber. Crews will perform site cleanup, add stone, and establish a construction work entrance. Work will take place Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with completion expected late January, weather permitting. No road or area closures are expected at this time.

Maintenance Work at Barker Field Extension beginning Jan. 20
Parking lot maintenance at the Barker Field Extension, 160 Mitchelville Road, will begin on Jan. 20. Crews will work daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with completion anticipated by the end of February, weather permitting. The project includes parking lot maintenance and stormwater drainage improvements, such as:

• Replacing broken wheel stops
• Installing missing signs
• Repairing damaged asphalt
• Seal coating the asphalt parking area
• Repairing and resetting pavers in the paver parking areas
• Improving stormwater drainage in and around the parking area

The pathway from Barker Field Extension to Fish Hall Beach Park and the beach will remain open during the maintenance. Impacted areas will be clearly marked with orange fencing, safety cones, and/or caution signage. Park users are encouraged to avoid these areas and use caution while visiting the park.

Survey work beginning Jan. 26
Starting Monday, Jan. 26, survey work will begin along Arrow Road to Wexford Drive in preparation for a future multi-use path. This project is funded through a grant partnership between the Town and the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). Crews will work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and expect to complete the survey by the end of February, weather permitting.
