Hilton Head Island Mayor Lifts Local State of Emergency

August 31, 2023

With Hurricane Idalia no longer a threat, Hilton Head Island Mayor Alan Perry has terminated the local state of emergency for the Island, effective 5 pm today.

Hurricane Idalia no longer poses an imminent threat to life, health, public safety, and general welfare of the entire geographic area of the Town of Hilton Head Island and its residents, and emergency measures are no longer necessary to cope with the existing and anticipated impacts that remain from Hurricane Idalia.

“I would like to thank our entire Town staff under the leadership of Town Manager Marc Orlando, our Emergency Management team, law enforcement, and others for the incredible job they did to keep our community safe during the storm,” Mayor Perry said.

With the lifting of the local state of emergency, the Town will resume normal operations. Town administrative offices will reopen for regular business hours (8 am to 4:30 pm) on Friday, September 1. Additionally, restrooms and facilities at Town parks are open for public use.

Stay Prepared

Although Hurricane Idalia has moved past us, we are still in the height of the Atlantic hurricane season, which runs through November 1, 2023. Make sure your hurricane plans and preparations remain ready should any future storms pose a threat to our area. You can find hurricane preparation information on the Town’s website at hiltonheadislandsc.gov.
