Trees on Hilton Head Island

How Trees Help Us and the Environment

  • Trees help clean the air by removing harmful substances, making it healthier to breathe.
  • Trees take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen, which creates clean air.
  • Island wildlife depends on trees for food, shelter, and raising their young.
  • Trees enhance the beauty of our Island

Tree City USA

Tree City USA Logo

The Town of Hilton Head Island has held the Tree City USA designation since 2000!

Tree City USA® is a program sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in collaboration with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. Being recognized as a Tree City USA is a wonderful opportunity for our community to celebrate the significance of maintaining a healthy tree canopy.

By learning how to properly care for our trees and understanding their value and benefits, we can enhance the quality of life for everyone in our community

Trees & Development

The Town has established rules to protect the island's natural resources and keep them healthy for future generations.
