Employee Time Off with Pay

Employees who earn benefits get time off with pay.

You begin earning vacation on your start date.

  • Vacation amounts earned each month varies depending on your work schedule and years of service.
  • Vacation earned rates range from 7.5 hours to 11.2 hours per month for new full-time employees
  • Part-time employees earn pro-rated vacation based on scheduled hours
  • Unused vacation is carried over to the next year (subject to specified limits)

You receive paid sick leave for temporary absences due to personal or family illnesses or injury.

  • You begin earning sick leave on your start date
  • Sick leave earned rates range from 7.5 hours to 11.2 hours per month for new full-time employees
  • Part-time employees earn pro-rated sick leave based on scheduled hours
  • Unused sick leave is carried over to the next year (subject to specified limits)

Employees who earn benefits recieve short and long-term disability insurance at no cost to you.

  • If you are out of work due to illness or injury, you are eligible to receive sick leave pay.
    • Once sick leave is used or after 30 days (whichever is later), short-term disability benefits can cover 66.67 percent of pay (up to $2,500 a week) for day 31 to 90
    • After 90 days, long-term disability benefits (65 percent of pay up to $8,000 a month) are available.
  • Under certain situations, coverage may exclude pre-existing conditions

Administrative staff and Fire Rescue vehicle maintenance employees are given paid time off for the following holidays:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • President's Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veteran's Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Day After Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day

* Employees required to work on a holiday receive double time for hours actually worked.

Floating Holidays

Full-time employees are given a specified number of "floating" holidays to take off any time during the year, with supervisory approval.
