Town of Hilton Head Island Kicks-off National Bike Month With Free Community Celebration

April 29, 2022

The Town of Hilton Head Island invites the community to celebrate May as National Bike Month at an afternoon cycling fest at Lowcountry Celebration Park from 5 to 7 pm, Friday, May 6, 2022.

Join bicycling enthusiasts and others promoting the joy and benefit of cycling. Pulseology Health will lead a community stretch session in the park at 4:45 pm to kick off festivities. At 5 pm, local band, Lowcountry Boil, will take the stage. Island-based health and wellness vendors will have booths set up to offer event attendees an array of information.

"This is an all-ages event for those who love to bike, would like to learn more about biking, or just want to learn about the healthy lifestyle and outdoor recreational opportunities biking provides on Hilton Head Island," said Shawn Colin, Assistant Town Manager for Community Development. "Hilton Head Island is a Gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community. As such, we not only celebrate biking, but we look for opportunities to continuously educate our community on safe biking."

The first 100 attendees will receive a free swag bag of cycling goodies. More information about the May 6 event is available at CultureHHI.org/cycle-celebration.

In addition to May being National Bike Month, May 16-22 is Bike to Work Week and Friday, May 20, is Bike to Work Day. The Town is encouraging local businesses to participate in National Bike to Work Day. The League of American Bicyclists established National Bike Month in 1956 to highlight the benefits of bicycling and encourage more folks to try biking. Communities from coast-to-coast host bike month celebrations. For information on planning your participation, visit bikeleague.org/bikemonth.
