About Juneteenth

Juneteenth, short for June nineteenth, is a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It is also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day. It became a federal holiday in June 2021. The Hilton Head Island Town Council formally adopted the holiday for observance on June 7, 2022.
