Town Council Approves Sponsorship for Annual RBC Heritage Golf Tournament

February 22, 2024

The Hilton Head Island Town Council unanimously endorsed the Island's signature event - the 2024 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing -— with a $400,000 sponsorship to help promote the world-renowned tournament.

This year marks the 56th anniversary of the golf tournament that attracts professional golfers, spectators, and residents to Hilton Head Island. It contributes over $102 million to the local and state economy each year. On Tuesday, February 20th, the Town Council approved a new sponsorship agreement with the Heritage Classic Foundation, which presents the tournament. Funds for the sponsorship are allocated from the Town's accommodations tax money, revenue collected from visitors who stay overnight in hotels and other rentals.

The Heritage Classic Foundation seeks funds from the Town annually. This year, tournament organizers requested an increase of sponsorship dollars since the tournament is now designated as a PGA Tour signature event. PGA signature events are limited-field events that feature increased purses, top-performing golfers from the previous and current seasons, and an elevated spectator experience. This year's tournament is set to be held April 15-21, 2024.

"For over 55 years, the RBC Heritage has been a staple event on the island, bringing in countless visitors and renowned golfers to our area," said Hilton Head Island Mayor Alan Perry. "This tournament puts a spotlight on the natural beauty of the Island and the incredible golf course at Harbour Town. We are thrilled to help the RBC Heritage thrive while boosting our worldwide profile and the local economy."

"This is a great day for the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. I am very excited that the partnership between the Town of Hilton Head Island and one of the PGA TOUR's signature events is continuing. The RBC Heritage is thankful to the Town for its support, and we are already excited to welcome the World to Hilton Head Island again this April to showcase an incredible golf tournament on the Nation's number one Island," said Tournament Director Steve Wilmot.

Created in 1987, the Heritage Classic Foundation was formed by a group of Hilton Head Island residents to secure the future of the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. Since then, the foundation has grown to not only support the RBC Heritage but also to enrich a variety of non-profits across the Island and state. To date, the foundation has donated $51.74 million to charities in South Carolina and Georgia and $5.4 million to 386 high school seniors.
