Call for Volunteers to Serve on Town Boards and Committees

The Hilton Head Island Town Council seeks dedicated individuals to fill vacancies across various boards and committees. Below are the immediate opportunities available:

• Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee: Three volunteers are needed, including one with expertise in lodging, one with expertise in hospitality, and one for an at-large position. This committee evaluates applications from community organizations seeking tourism grant funds for projects to attract visitors to Hilton Head Island. Meetings occur as needed from July through December at 9 am.
   
• Board of Zoning Appeals: One volunteer is required to fill an at-large seat. This board reviews land use issues, including proposed variances from the Town's Land Management Ordinance, special exception applications, and appeals of decisions made by administrative officials. Meetings are scheduled for the fourth Monday of each month at 2:30 pm.
   
• Design Review Board: Two volunteers are needed for at-large seats. This board assesses the aesthetics of new developments and renovations of existing developments to preserve the Island's Character. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 2:30 pm.
   
• Parks & Recreation Commission: Two board members are needed to provide recommendations to enhance the Town’s parks and recreation system for residents and visitors alike. Meetings take place on the second Thursday of each month at 3:30 pm.
   
• Planning Commission: One additional member with expertise in architecture or landscape architecture is required. The commission is responsible for preparing and updating the Comprehensive Plan and reviewing various proposals such as zoning changes and public projects. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 2 pm.

Serving on a Town board or committee is an excellent opportunity to contribute your time and skills to public service within your community.

Applicants must be registered voters within the Town of Hilton Head Island to qualify for committee service.
