Town of Hilton Head Island Declares State of Emergency in Preparation for Tropical Storm Debby

August 5, 2024

Town of Hilton Head Island Mayor Alan Perry has declared a State of Emergency due to potential impacts from Tropical Storm Debby, effective immediately.

Gov. Henry McMaster declared a State of Emergency for the State of South Carolina this past Sunday.

Weather conditions from Tropical Storm Debby are forecasted to cause historic rainfall and significant flooding in Hilton Head Island today through Thursday. Between 10 to 30 inches of rain are expected in some areas. Debby is a slow-moving storm, which means its impacts are likely to last for a longer duration. Due to expected impacts, Town administrative offices will be closed for normal business operations on Tuesday and Wednesday, and parking and restroom facilities at the Town beach, community, and sports parks are also closed. Emergency personnel remain on duty and actively engaged in storm mitigation efforts.

Read the Emergency Proclamation.

Residents and visitors are urged to stay informed through local media and follow the Town of Hilton Head Island’s official channels for the latest updates on the storm and its impact:

Town officials will continue to provide regular updates from the National Weather Service regarding the storm’s progression and local impacts.
